Spanish Language Courses
As a Spanish Education major, I have had the opportunity to develop my proficiency in the Spanish language during several classes at MNSU.
FOCUS ON SPANISH LANGUAGE During one of my first language courses at the college level, SPAN310 Conversation and Composition, I explored reasons why it is important to be bilingual in Spanish and English in the United States. From increasing your chances of finding a job to having more travel opportunities, speaking Spanish and English is a benefit in the U.S. society today. Below, I argued whether or not Latin America really exists, or if it only exists because of the Spanish conquest. |

FOCUS ON SPAIN
At the end of Spanish 355 (Fall 2015), which went into an in-depth study of Spain as a civilization, each student researched a topic regarding the country and how it has impacted the world throughout history. I choose to research the Spanish monarchy. It can be viewed here as a Prezi. The following fall semester, I took a literature course (SPAN402) about Spanish civil war literature. This course has shown me the connection history has with literature, art and music; the Spanish Civil War produced a large quantity of reactions to not only the war but its aftermath, including the time Francisco Franco spent as dictator of the country. Much of the literature from this time period has themes of religion, justice, culpability, and remembering the past in order to face the future. Below is a quote from my end-of-semester reflection of the class:
La guerra civil española produjo una gran cantidad de poemas, libros, cuentos, películas, pinturas y otras obras. Estas expresan los pensamientos del autor y muestran la sociedad al tiempo en que fue escrita la obra. Como lectores, negociamos el significado de estas obras y que representan los símbolos; debemos cuestionar todo en la literatura. Entonces, los temas representados por cada uno pueden sobreponer.

FOCUS ON LATIN AMERICA
During the course SPAN403, which focused on monsters in Latin American literature, I did my final project on utopic and dystopic literary elements used in the two stories "Los embriones del violeta" by Angelica Gorodischer and "Viaje a la semilla" by Alejo Carpentier. |
